LGBTQI Relationships Deserve Rights
LGBTQI Relationships Deserve Rights
The Philippine Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex couples who live together may be recognized as co-owners of property under Article 148 of the Family Code, provided there is proof of actual contribution.
This decision acknowledges a reality long known by our communities: relationships in the Philippines are not limited to heterosexual norms. Queer families exist, build lives together, share responsibilities, and deserve legal recognition and protection.
While the ruling does not yet grant full legal equality or marriage rights, it marks an important step toward recognizing LGBTQI relationships within existing legal frameworks. It also highlights the need for stronger protections to ensure LGBTQI couples are not left vulnerable to discrimination or legal invisibility.
LGBTQI couples deserve cohabitation rights.
They deserve security, dignity, and equal recognition under the law. #HappyEquality
